The Outcross Systems Sheep eID Solution for Saleyards and Agents

As you will be aware, the National rollout of Sheep and Goat eID is underway, and we will be required to be scanning all sheep and farmed goats moving through saleyards by January 2025.

Outcross have a proven track record in Sheep eID, with the added benefit of dedicated and knowledgeable staff on the ground.

The Outcross Solution allows for an integrated approach to sheep sales, allowing for data to be seamlessly entered and collected at different stages of the sheep sale, improving efficiencies.

This is how we do Sheep eID compliance in 8 easy steps

Step 1 – Enter NVD into STOCKYARD software

  • NVD’s can be added as a whole NVD, or as a “Shell NVD” (just a vendor name).
  • NVD’s can be added in the office as usual, or in the yards or at the ramp.
  • Shell NVD’s can be created when agents know which vendors they are expecting, populating the system with a vendor list to be able to pick from when drafting.

Step 2 – Choose Vendor

  • At the draft, agents select which vendor they are going to be drafting
  • Agent’s use a tablet to connect to the Allflex “Hamilton” Draft, and are ready to go!

Step 3 – Draft and Scan NLIS Tags

Step 4 – Add Lot information and attach tags

  • Tags will be scanned into the chosen vendor
  • Tags will be scanned 3 ways, in accordance with whichever way they were drafted.
  • These tags (now in a sale lot) will be assigned a pen number when they are moved into their yard.
  • Tags can be run around again and re-drafted/scanned.

 Step 5  – Hand scan and re-tag*

*Any Sale lots that haven’t met the required compliance level

Step 6 – E-Clerking & checking

Step 7 – Delivery

When all data is entered and checked off, agents and drovers can utilise Stockyard in their delivery process.

Sheep EID Recommended Equipment

Device Notes
Minimum Galaxy Tab A9 or A9+ (WiFi) Cheapest device. Put a rugged case on this and it’s good to go. If broken, can be easy and cheap enough to replace. The A9+ model is 11 inch and A9 is 8 inch. Some users may prefer the larger screen, we have found the 8 inch version is more suitable to the saleyard environment.
Recommended Galaxy Tab Active 5 (WiFi) Heavy duty rugged tablet with removable battery and stylus.
Best Galaxy Tab Active 5 (5G) Same as above, with the addition of being 4G capable. Slightly more expensive.
